THE Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (Pvt) Ltd (ZCDC) has constructed and handover two modern courts to Chiefs Marange and Zimunya as part of the diamond company’s on-going Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

During a community needs assessment exercise with Chiefs, the traditional leaders requested for decent courts which preserve their dignity and guards their integrity and standing in the local communities.

And since ZCDC has high regard for community development and respects cultural and traditional values of the communities where the company operates, it responded positively.

ZCDC non-executive director Colonel Esau Chiadzwa said: “During a community needs assessment exercise and in consultation with the Chiefs, the need for decent courts for them was identified. Their submissions were well noted and have now been addressed. I am delighted that ZCDC has delivered on its promise.”

ZCDC acting chief executive officer, Mr Roberto De Pretto said the company will attend to all the community needs because the community was so important to the diamond mining company and needed the community’s blessings to operate.

“We are in partnership and together we will walk the path,” he said. “ZCDC is a responsible mining company, we listen to the communities and we prioritize the projects. We don’t dictate which projects they should have, but we discuss with them and this is part of our community strategy.”
