SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY (SBDS)
The SBDS Strategy is focusing on sustainable capacity development to improve diamond production and profitability of ZCDC, in the face of declining diamond production and diamond prices due to introduction of synthetic diamonds and geo-political tensions on the international landscape. The SBDS strategic pillars focuses on business sustainability, costs and resources optimisation, innovation, automation, governance and compliance.

- COST OPTIMISATION
In the face of dynamic economic market conditions and disruptive technologies, the Costs optimisation strategy pillar buttresses ZCDC’s sustainable business development strategy. Costs optimisation is not cost cutting but leveraging costs reduction in processes efficiency and effectiveness. ZCDC’s process optimisation strategy aims on maintaining ZCDC’s core function: diamond recovery and marketing, thus contracting out mining. ZCDC’s process optimisation will be underpinned by innovation and automation. ZCDC’s staff talent development and management, benchmark visits, processes and operation strategic review sessions are fostering innovation and automation with our operations.
- BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY
ZCDC’s is an ISO certified organization, KPC compliant, and currently pursuing IRMA-50 certification. ZCDC sustainability strategy focuses on an all-stakeholder satisfaction conundrum parameter. ZCDC will take strides to ensure continued compliance to the best mining industry sustainability standards through social investment programs, environmental stewardship, integrated talent management, profitability and efficiency on all KPIs.
- INNOVATION AND RESOURCE UTILISATION OPTIMISATION
The 4th Industrial revolution: technology forms the backbone integration of ZCDC’s value chain operations and processes. Process efficiency is underpinned with digitalization and integration of all our processes. Diamond production security forms an integral part of ZCDC operations the Digital Security Framework Strategy implementation is already underway following the deployment of drone surveillance technology and systems integration. ZCDC towards digitalization is exploring adaptability Geofencing technology in our operations. A successful innovation and automation system is underpinned by human resources, thus ZCDC’s policies on integrated human resources management framework to improve employee engagement, retention, morale and productivity.
- CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
ZCDC ascribes to the best industry practice on corporate governance, ensuring transparency, accountability and risk management in all our facets. Within ZCDC different functions were set-up to ensure compliance to local legislation (PECG Act) and global corporate governance principles. ZCDC has a functional on Governance structure with Board members having main and sub-committee meetings being conducted regularly with executive management. Through stakeholders ZCDC conducts board evaluation and development periodically. ZCDC is also compliance to Audit and Financial governance principles with an Internal audit department and external auditors conducting their audits regularly since inception of ZCDC in 2016. A Policy review framework is also in place to ensure polices remain relevant and up-to-date with the best industry practices.
Strategy Summary
- As ZCDC moves towards its vision to be “A World Class Diamond Producer”, a strategy for 2024 has been set considering the current performance of the company and changes in the operating environment.
- In line with this, ZCDC is expected to become a significant player in the USD 40 billion mining industry by 2030.
- This goal will be achieved through ZCDC’s key strategic pillars of Cost Optimization, Business Sustainability, Innovative and Resource Utilization Optimization and Governance and Compliance.
