The Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has continued to cement its footprint in the community it operates after paying US$1.2million dividend to Chiadzwa Community Share Ownership Scheme ‘to finance critical development projects for community living around the mine.’
In a statement, ZCDC Corporate Affairs Executive Sugar Chagonda, said the diamond mining giant was committed to make a mark in the community they operate from.
“Our operations dovetail with this year’s theme and as a responsible corporate citizen, we continue to come up with innovative ways which promote prosperity at both community and national level in line with National Development Strategy 1.
“As ZCDC, we have internalized this theme to From Mine to Shine, Building Prosperity Together and this has been our story,” Chagonda said.
ZCDC this year marked a return to the premier agric expo, The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show currently on at the Exhibition Centre in Harare, with a state-of-the-art designed stand at the Mining Village.
The return marks the end of the two-year hiatus for the world-class diamond producer.
Chagonda said the return to exhibiting the success story of diamond mining was testament that the gems had transformed the lives of people in Chiadzwa.
“As ZCDC, we are so delighted to showcase our business operations as well as tell the members of the public how diamonds have transformed the lives of ordinary people in Chiadzwa and surrounding communities. The outbreak of the covid 19 pandemic resulted in us slowing down on our awareness activities such as this one,” he said.
ZCDC had brought a new lease of life to the Chiadzwa community through empowerment and infrastructure development such as upgrading of roads and continuous dust suppression system which highlights the company’s commitment in caring for the environment, communities, and its workforce.
