The ZCDC Security System is anchored on four strategic pillars as follows:

1. Technological Pillar
2. Physical Pillar
3. Psychological Pillar
4. Moral Suasion pillar

These pillars are constituted by various units, with the technological pillar comprising drone and CCTV technology, as well as biometric access control and whole-body scanning technology. The physical pillar encompasses security operations while the psychological and moral suasion pillars translate to elements of security intelligence and open community engagement. Collectively, these pillars are implemented through the following security units:

Drone Surveillance

ZCDC became one of the first organisations to be certified for drone operations in Zimbabwe and introduced advanced drone technology for aerial day and night security surveillance. Drones have since significantly enhanced security and transparency at the mines.

CCTV

All key value-chain processes including mining, processing and sorting are monitored by CCTV. A four-tier CCTV system has been established, allowing real-time streaming of CCTV footage from designated stations, including the ZCDC Head Office and the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.

Operations

Highly trained Security Operatives, Gun Handlers and Dog Handlers provide specialised security services such as product escorts and static guard. These operational teams also work tactically with the surveillance teams to ensure that security responses to any observations are effective and efficient.

Crime investigation and intelligence

ZCDC has also established a specialised Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit. This unit is responsible for the collection and collation of information from various internal and external sources, for the purpose of providing intelligence to inform security strategic decision making.

External Security

Over and above internal security, ZCDC also contracts two external security service providers to ensure strong checks and balances.

Compliance

The ZCDC Security Architecture is fully compliant with the minimum requirements of the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) regarding the security of the diamonds.
