Mobile Plant

ZCDC Mining operations entail the hauling of ore and overburden waste. In that regard, ZCDC mine owns a fleet of heavy mobile earth moving equipment (EMVs) and light vehicles. The Mobile Plant function of the Engineering department is to carryout out maintenance and repair services on all mobile equipment (EMVs) to ensure the optimum availability target is achieved.

Fixed Plant

To liberate rough diamonds from the mined ore, ZCDC mine operates two liberation plants, three processing plants and three recovery plants. These plants comprise of structural facilities and electro-mechanical equipment installed in a coordinated manner to achieve maximum efficiency. The fixed plant function of the Engineering department is to install, commission, maintain and repair plant equipment to ensure a smooth run in line with achieving the set plant availability target.

Power

ZCDC mine operations draws its electric power from the national electricity grid to power all the plants and other facilities. The mine also has a total capacity of 8.7MW from diesel generators to sustain the operations in the event of a power outage. The engineering department is responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of power reticulation systems within the mine concession, as well as to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the mine operations through the utilisation of standby diesel generators.

Water

ZCDC operations draws its water requirements from the Odzi river as per the agreed guidelines with the responsible national water authority. Water is a critical resource to the diamond recovery process. To ensure uninterrupted water supply to the mine, the Engineering department designs, maintains and repairs water reticulation systems, and ensures the availability and efficient use of water recycling facilities to minimise freshwater uptake into the operations.
